Press report:

Blue Star issue Opus One (Full text - MF DNES (CULTURE-HRADEC KRÁLOVÉ REGION) – 31 January 2006, Author of the article: Petr Mareček)

The swingers from
“Blue Star led by the accordionist Václav Marek are bringing out their debut disc”

A sold-out concert at the Semafor Theatre – not a bad start at all! Jiří Suchý reached into the songbook of Voskovec & Werich, Josef Zíma sang the famous Cikánka and the musical star Daniela Šinkorová added Brecht’s and Weill’s Moritat as well as Hello, Dolly! The Ladies and gentlemen from Václav Marek’s Blue Star ensemble christened their first big album, which they named after one of the key pieces played by the ensemble the tune Opus One by Sy Oliver. The record was “blessed” by the godfathers Jiří Suchý, Táňa Fischerová and professor Pavel Pafko...

"We called the record Opus One on purpose because this really is a debut, on which we offer audiences and listeners of our production an overview of what we have so far managed to do. If anybody wanted to argue that it is an unconceptual album, well there are dance, jazz and swing pieces on it from the Czech Republic and America and it is this way so that anybody who has not yet come across us can gain a comprehensive idea of what Blue Star is all about. Our next recordings will be thematic," says the bandmaster and arranger Václav Marek, whose accordion – true to the example of the famous Kamil Běhounek – distinguishes Blue Star from other similar ensembles"...

One of the godfathers of the first CD by Blue Star was Jiří Suchý (Full text - SERVIS HRADECKA – 6 February 2006, Author of the article: Jiří Košťák)

Václav Marek’s Blue Star ensemble has been playing for seven years now. They play songs and music from the nineteen thirties and forties...

Just one week ago, the Blue Star sextet christened their first CD in the Semafor Theatre in Prague called Václav Marek & his Blue Star - Opus One. There are 19 songs on it such as for example Dívka v modrém, Sám s děvčetem v dešti, Oči čokoládové, Svítá and other well-known melodies. The album was christened by eminent personalities: the actress Táňa Fischerová, the singer Jiří Suchý, the well-known surgeon Professor Pavel Pafko and also the musical producer of the CD František Rychtařík. Daniela Šinkorová, Josef Zíma, Aleš Cibulka and Michal Stejskal took to the stage with Blue Star as guests.

"We chose the godfathers deliberately, they are people who we hold in the utmost of esteem. For example we met Professor Pafko at a concert in Prague and he really liked our performance."...
